CIFS Conference:
CIFS National Conference 2012
Helen Pomery
CIFS Media Release
September 24, 2010

Details

After an extremely successful National Conference in Brisbane, March 2010, the Cult Information and Family Support Group QLD is pleased to announce that the next CIFS Qld National Conference will take place in Brisbane on March 9th - 10th, 2012.

The focus for this conference will be the training of health professionals and counsellors. Many ex-members report that they have searched desperately for a mental health professional who understands the kind of manipulation and deception they have endured, so we believe that this conference will be a valuable step towards training professionals here in Australia.

You will be thrilled to know that Professor Doni Whitsett will be returning to train health professionals and joining her will be Bill and Lorna Goldberg from New York. Lorna Goldberg is the President of the International Cultic Studies Association, ICSA. Bill and Lorna have run a support group for ex-members and concerned family members for over 30 years, so they are coming with a wealth of experience. Other speakers will be announced in future updates.

Participants will acquire a detailed knowledge of assessment, diagnosis and treatment modalities from Doni Whitsett. Lorna will focus on and contrast her clinical work with a second generation child, a first generation adult, and a second generation adult, giving case examples. Bill will focus on how he works with families attempting to deal with a member who is in a cult. He will also discuss support groups for former cult members and the issues that emerge in those groups.

You will be able to recommend this conference to all health professionals, counsellors, students and support groups throughout Australia. Past participants know from personal experience that we will aim to make the experience truly exciting and inclusive for all participants.

Please stay tuned for more information about the CIFS QLD National Conference, March 2012 on the CIFS website, http://www.cifs.org.au/

We hope that you will join us in Brisbane if you are eligible to attend and spread the news of this exciting conference to all health professionals and counsellors throughout Australia.

The CIFS QLD committee look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane in March 2012.

Can you please notify us if you are interested in further updates.

Thank you.
