Scientology:
"Going Clear" Movie Review

Just … wow. If you have ever wondered how Scientology gets people. This film shows you. If you have ever wondered how Scientology keeps people. This film shows you. If you have ever wondered how Scientology damages, harms, abuses and tortures people (and children)… This film shows you.

Basically if you have any questions about Scientology (and if you don’t, you should) then this documentary provides the answers. The scary, scary answers.

And it is utterly, bogglingly fascinating.

Alex Gibney is not a perfect documentary maker. He missed way more than he hit on Lance Armstrong. But the guy who made the films that rocked Enron and the Catholic Church is the perfect person to make this documentary. He is not a surgeon, cutting carefully to get to a point without causing further damage, he is a mortician, slicing and dicing with extreme skill, but no concern about repercussions.

The film was inspired by and utilizes the research contained within a book of the same name, but there is something far more engaging, terrifying and convincing about hearing the stories as spoken by individuals. And they are impressive individuals: From Hollywood heavyweights like Paul Haggis, to a former Scientology big wig, Marty Rathbun, the man who used to be second in charge.

This is two hours of intensive information about the history, practices and surreal beliefs of Scientology. And it is utterly, bogglingly fascinating.

Basically the only other way to find out this much about the “church” would be to join, and we would highly recommend you watched this film before you chose that course of action.

Your price of admission will cost you far less than any “free personality test” and improve your life significantly more.
