The media job market is the pits right now, there’s no doubt about that, but there are jobs out there – you just have to know where to look! For example, JournalismJobs.com is currently listing this plum magazine assignment for any seasoned reporter:

Freedom Magazine is looking for experienced investigative reporters for short and long-range freelance assignments. Freedom, published by the Church of Scientology since 1968, covers human rights and social betterment issues and does investigative reporting in the public interest. Current assignments are based in Los Angeles, New York and Southeastern Texas.

Please send your resume to editor@freedommag.org.

Not sure what to put in your cover letter? Worry not, as we’ve composed this handy template. Fill in the appropriate fields, dash it off, and land yourself a gig!

To Whom It May Concern,

Hello! My name is [Your Name]. I have [X] years of professional experience working in the field of investigative journalism, and think I would be a perfect fit at Freedom – a publication I’ve long thought was woefully underrepresented at the National Magazine Awards.

Whether the topic is “How Auditing Cures AIDS,” “Zoloft: The Holocaust Part II,” “Person of the Year: Kirstie Alley” or “10 Surefire Ways to a More Purificated You,” I promise not to rest a single minute until all my fact-checking thetans are clear.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Good luck!
